Social Networking—Boon or Bane
How social networking allows RIY1’s to be technologically savvy.
How does social networking allow RIY1’s to be technologically savvy? You probably have not thought about it before and you may not find an answer immediately as it has not been officially been researched on before.
Social networking, mainly facebook, is used by many to chat or to play games. However, in the midst of playing games, or maybe in the first step--creating an account, do you realize that you are learning something? While social networking, one has to learn and know how to create accounts, homepages, blogs and avatars, crop, browse and edit pictures, type and make friends.
Knowing these skills, one can use the computer with much more ease, something that one has to learn with much more difficulty. Therefore, a much easier way to learn computer skills can be via social networking.
However, many people are not aware of this and parents do not encourage their children to social network too much. Some parents even go to such an extent to ban their children from using the computer to social network.
In this research, researching in this area is simpler and it can allow people interested in this research to be much more aware about how social networking helps them, in a way, a boon.
1. Framing my research topic
Social networking may not necessarily be a bane and technological skills will be something many people will be interested in. Opinions from other people can help my project and it is simpler to research on. It is also based on a smaller scope.
2. Reasons for choice of topic
Many people think that it is a bane for children who are social networking and I want to prove a boon. Few have thought about technological skills and I want to raise the awareness in people. I am really interested in finding out the answer as my knowledge in computers is really shallow. It can also raise awareness to people who are also like me. If the answer to this research is a yes, more and more people will start or continue to social network.
3. Feasibility of the project
There is a need for my project as many people may not believe it is true. It is possible to carry out through finding evidence or interviews. Information can be found on the Internet or in the libraries. People can also discuss and tell us what they have learnt via social networking.
4. Manageability of the project
We can work together to search for information and share with each other. We can also split the tasks of finding information, interviewing and analyzing. We can co-ordinate via email or in the wiki. There is a time constraint as we only have less than 2 weeks but we have already planned to stay back after school for a few hours and during breaktime.
5. Accessibility of the information required
The internet is accessible and we can obtain both primary and secondary sources. We can also analyze different perspectives through newspapers, books or even previous research if it has been done to have a fully comprehensive research project.
